Rec List + Gifset

As I've been struggling with writer's block for several months now, I thought I'd create a rec list, and top it off with a gifset :)


♦ Lesser-known Fics I love ♦

☆ Two Body Problem | bomberqueen17 | 162,022 words | A long, slow telling of SGA, mostly from John's POV-- mostly dealing with his relationship to Rodney, but a little with Elizabeth, and his team. This is technically a series, and a work in progress one. However, the first few installments are finished and they end in satisfactory places, so if you want to read up to the unfinished installment, feel free. This fic is amazing, it's one of those fics I want everyone to read so we can gush about it together. The author also has an AU McShep fic that's really good, though that is still a WIP.

☆ Do I Dare Disturb The Universe | vaguelyconcerned | 57484 words | When Faith Lumsbred disobeys the decree of Queen Harmony and goes into the forbidden part of the woods, she expects to discover something cool, or at least something suitably unsettling. Finding instead an ageing astrophysicist and his cat she decides to get to the bottom of the things. How did McKay end up here? Why has the queen gone to such lengths to keep him hidden? And what exactly has he been doing out here all by himself? Do not let the OFC scare you off - I know OC's can be truly terrible, but Faith is a wonderful character I'm very fond of. This fic is very much a McShep fic with hints of femmslash. Your heart will ache for Rodney.

☆ Happy Trails | merrov | 20019 words | “Personally I can’t decide if everyone here is stupid or just plain crazy. You’re riding a sled pulled by crazy huskies almost a thousand miles at subzero temperatures with mediocre shelter and so many trail hazards I can’t even begin to list them.” Dog Sledding AU! Rodney is a veterinarian and John is a dog sledder. There's an instant connection, but Rodney's in Alaska only for the race; after, he's supposed to return home.

☆ Far Ahead The Road Has Gone | Lavvyan | 13823 words | If anybody was to make sure that this man would stay safe and sound, it would have to be John, if only for the reason that everybody else would kill the overconfident son of a bitch within the first five minutes. Lavvyan is an amazing author, and many of her fics are well loved. I didn't even know this fic existed until I stumbled upon it, however.

☆ Given A Choice, It Would Always Be Sunday | Godofwine | 2557 words | At any given moment, Rodney's clock is counting down the minutes to his next cup of coffee.

I tried to pick fics that I don't often see mentioned; my goal was to try and rec something new to people :P I'm so glad you like the gifset! AU gifsets are so fun to make, but I can rarely think of a do-able idea~

Ooo, really? It was my goal to rec fics people haven't read yet XD I should have put a note in there that the first fic is actually a longer, more involved rewrite of a McShep Match fic. Oh well~

*beams back* I'm so glad you like the gifs! I love doing AU gifsets, but as I mentioned, I rarely think of do-able ideas. I have a somewhat naughty AU gifset for Vegas sitting in my drafts ;)

Aw, thanks for the very kind words. Also, meant to say something about writers' block. Man, it hurts, doesn't it? That mental paralysis is so hard to deal with. My sympathies.

You're welcome :D Writings block is terrible, especially since I have so many ideas, some of which have already been started. On the other hand, I'm not that talented of a writer, so it's no big loss.

Mmmmm, I'm just breezing through downloading some stuff for my Kindle & discovered I'd never seen this post by you. What a loss!--but I'm appreciating it now just as much, if not more. Of all your recs, the only one I've read is Two-Body Problem--well, parts of it, & I need to go figure out which parts I've missed. Like you, I'm surprised there's one by lavvyan I haven't read! I admit I'm particularly looking forward to the sled dog AU; something about the guyz + animals = squee in my brain. ;-)

Love the gifset too, especially the "Call me romantic"/John smirking square & the one with "Morning, sleepyhead"/Rodney looking fuzzy". John really is a Smirky McSmirk, isn't he?

I go through spurts of downloading a ton of fic to my Kindle :P I have 300+ SGA fics on it, now. Aw, it's sweet of you to say that missing this post was a loss :D If you've read Two Body Problems you should give her AU fic Other Plans a try~

Whenever people rec Lavvyan's stuff, it tends to be the same fics. Which is great - I love her work - but there are a couple pieces that are posted just to wraithbait and nowhere else, and those tend to be missed. I really love the Dog Sled AU; it's such a fun fic, not too serious. I've re-read it several times now :P

Thank you re: the gifset! John is so smirky. I'm so amused by the "call me romantic" gif because that entire gif is canon; Rodney says that line, John smiles. What cuties! John is so charmed by fuzzy/sleepy Rodney :p
