I've put the offered prompts here in a numbered list. I've numbered them being where last year's left off.
Remember, you don't have to use one of these prompts, you can pick your own instead. You can also use a prompt from a previous year.
But, if you do chose one (or more)from the list we'd love to know. You'll have a chance to share that with us when you claim a posting date. Claiming will run from now it's posting time!
2016 Prompts
94. Rodney has vivid dreams beginning when he’s 16, of a man that can talk to him about comic books and math and girls and everything. The man never ages, and he becomes Rodney’s best friend. Eventually Rodney develops feelings for the man – John. Turns out that John is in a stasis chamber in Antarctica and through a confluence of technology and destiny he does a mental hookup with Rodney. John doesn’t know where he is, or even if Rodney is real. But they develop a deep bond, and John is already in love with Rodney before they even meet.
95. (not involved, but each pining) John and Rodney are to go to the Miller's for a holiday vacation (author's choice). When they reach Earth, Rodney gets a voicemail that "pipes are burst - this isn't a good time. We'll meet you at a cabin we rented". Cabin turns into a romantic getaway, and the Miller's never show. Bonus points if Jeannie did it on purpose to try and get the boys together.

96. Rodney is a scientist and John is a handyman for the building he lives in. Rodney keeps trying to figure out what to break to get John into his apartment.
97. Rodney is being flown somewhere on a private jet, and John is one of the two pilots - except Rodney mistakes him for cabin steward. John plays along for a while.
98. As friends, John is so comfortable with Rodney that he doesn't realize he's doing the old "Yawn and reach". Then there's talk from others, and THEN he and Rodney figure it out.
99. Rodney and John are in an established relationship. Atlantis is still on Earth. They go to see the new Star Wars TFA and later talk about the Star Wars of their youth... They talk about how great Princess Senator Leia Organa is, and muse about getting old fighting bad guys side-by-side.
100. John and Rodney try something new in the bedroom (what is author's choice) and it goes hilariously wrong.
101. -When (old, retired) Rodney's doctor tells him to start eating healthy or else, (also retired) John learns to cook healthy things that actually taste good.
102. Rodney as a young student at Juilliard. John is slightly older homeless? vet on disability
103. Not the romantic mush of movies. Their feelings are Marianas Trench deep, too deep for ordinary vocal cords.
Not the romantic swell of music. Their hearts soars higher than musical notes can reach.
Not the romance of Art. No color can come close to the intensity that lurks, unspoken.
But when two hands reach out, meet, and fingers entwine, it carries with it all the romance the human heart can bear.
104. Set in the VEGAS’verse.
Rodney is wearing a wedding band in this universe.
"...where alternate versions of you and I play out events in ways you can't…possibly imagine."

John actually survives and is convalescing. Rodney visits a few times but only when Sheppard isn’t awake. He knows he shouldn’t be there, but of course he’s drawn to John and can’t stay away. This Rodney wasn't born to this Earth, he’s stuck here from a rift in space-time. He’s emotionally cold and ruthless because he misses his life, and doesn’t care who he needs to destroy to get back to it. He’s prickly with John when they first meet because he’s angry with this version of John who has wasted his life and his potential. His John is a hero and just happens to be his husband in their universe. As he starts to get to know this John, maybe Rodney starts to believe what he said...
"I don't think there's much difference between you…and that other John Sheppard I met. It's amazing how one incident can entirely alter the course of your life."
105. I have always wanted to read the unbound genius post Trinity story that started with all the things we love so much, the staff meeting from hell where Rodney is put on probation and removed from Head of his dept and from his Team, cold distant Elizabeth and John etc, etc, but:
What if Rodney doesn't spend a lot of time stumbling around Atlantis mourning his lost John, just buries himself in work?
What if he becomes so productive in projects and research that Radak becomes worried, he never wanted Rodney's job and now his contacts at the SGC are telling him that the IOA is starting to notice.
What if Radak decides to alert Elizabeth that Rodney might not want to resume his former responsibilities.
How would distant!Elizabeth and distant!John figure out how to A) repair their relationships with McKay and B) try to entice McKay back into wanting to resume his roles as department Head and Team member, without diminishing his culpability for Doranda?
How especially John deal with all of this given that he and Rodney were, ahem, close.
When you (unwittingly) relieve a genius of all his distractions, what happens? Bonus points for Rodney believably oblivious to the machinations till the end, but was he?
106. Woke-up-married fic please! How does it happen? Maybe John and Rodney get a little drunk at Rodney's bachelor party and maybe John is sad, because things just aren't going to be the same and Rodney's like, no man, we'll always have beer on the pier, nothing has to change and then there are feelings and more drinking and maybe they decide the logical thing to do is to get bbf married. So they do. Obviously. And then they go home to their respective beds and only realize they're married when they run into Lorne the next day and he makes a comment about sending them a copy of the wedding, which he recorded on his phone.
Or maybe John and Rodney got Vegas married because they were lonely and sad when they were exiled to Earth by the Asurans but then with the excitement of their return and everything that happens after they kind of forget that they're actually married.
Au or canon, on earth or on a mission, I'm not fussy. I really just want them to wake up inexplicably married to each other.
107. Fireman AU - John, Teyla, Ronon, etc are firemen. Maybe John rescues Rodney's kitty from a tree for him, maybe someone is trying to sabotage Rodney's Very Important Work, or perhaps even trying to kill him, via arson?
108. John and Rodney argue moissanite vs diamonds for an engagement ring! I can see this being a heated argument for them but I'm not sure who would be on which side - natural diamonds and lab-grown moissanite would each have their own romanticism and appeal to these nerds.
(OPTIONAL: neither of them know the other is planning to propose.)
109. Sentinel!fusion. Rodney is John's guide. Preferably in Atlantis but AU works too.
110. Pegasus Avengers. Another fusion.
111. Retired McShep edging. Whether this is right after they've returned to Earth and been pushed out, and are using sex to figure they've been pining for each other all along, or taking care of each other's cardiac health in a long established relationship is up to the author. PWP is what I'm saying.
112. John Sheppard needs a next of kin for his paperwork and Rodney McKay is it. Nevermind that Rodney is engaged to someone else.
113. Post Series, 10+ years later Atlantis has been mothballed! All Pegasus natives got sent home. Everyone gone their separate ways. Rodney and Jennifer married but broke up. John's still not quite got over the fact that he chose Jennifer in the first place so they're not really talking to each other. John can feel Atlantis pining for home... or maybe that's just him.
Bonus if John and Rodney pull together the old team and take Atlantis home.
114. AU. John is a skydiving instructor. Rodney is a professor. His students banded together and bought him a tandem skydive for a joke birthday present (malicious or meant in kindness is up to author). But Rodney is determined to go through with it.
115. John and Rodney attend Harmony's wedding, a grand state affair with visitors from many planets in Pegasus. Interplanetary intrigue means would-be assasins are present that object to the Atlanteans presence.
116. And reposting somebody else's prompt from last year - John and Rodney are reporters from rival newspapers.
117. Rodney gets his nipples pierced.
118. Presumed dead fic. One of them is believed to be dead and the other attempts to cope (badly). Give me all the angst followed by an HEA reunion. :)
119. Rodney is a renowned chef/baker. John is the irritating customer who tells him his food is "ok".
120. "Put that thing back where it came from or so help me..."
121. John finds out that Ronon and Rodney occasionally hook up, because sex. Neither of them has any sexuality hang ups. John gets jealous. He's still in the closet, even with the repeal of DADT, because of so many years of hiding, of occasional, furtive backroom hookups while on leave. Maybe also because of his dad? (but not necessary).
It can be funny or angsty or anything in between, but HEA please and McShep end game. :
122. Rodney discovers the science behind a time dilation field but doesn’t tell anyone. He secretly uses his quarters to create his own sanctuary so he can get a good night sleep and then be productive through night to achieve ’science-y things'. No one realizes Rodney isn’t ‘sleeping’ except Sheppard. He knows something is up when Zelenka mentions power spikes every night around the same time Rodney heads back to his quarters. Sheppard ‘investigates’. McKay & Sheppard take advantage of the hours = minutes in Rodney’s quarters.
OR Maybe Rodney discovers it and sets the time dilation field up on a beach on the mainland, and they use it as a ‘vacation spot’ for everyone on Atlantis. People can have a week vacation without disrupting any schedules or daily functioning duties on Atlantis.
(So, basically I just want some fun PWP.)
123. I am a sucker for the 'Gay for You' trope. I'll take it any way I can get it.
124. John runs a little brewhouse, and Rodney comes in one night after a bad day - and John doesn't know what to do with him at the end of the night so he takes him home.
125. John is a substitute personal chef that shows up one day, and Rodney is convinced John's trying to kill him.
126. John and Rodney, and two other Atlanteans of the author's choice, are competitors on the competition cooking show Chopped.
127. Deep Impact(ish) AU
Rodney McKay spots the huge meteor heading directly for Earth, not as part of his job, but as part of his star-gazing hobby. Luckily, he has some ideas on how they can stop it.
John Sheppard is the astronaut who'll be piloting the shuttle carrying Rodney and his payload up to the meteor.
128. After Rodney gets the gene, he starts waking up knowing things about Atlantis that he couldn't possibly know...unless she's telling him.
At first, he assumes he's dreaming - new galaxy, Ancient city, aliens out to kill him, he's actually surprised his nights aren't wall-to-wall nightmares - but then he absently uses some of his dream knowledge while under pressure, and it is pivotal in him saving the day.
John eventually confesses that, yeah, he's been getting the occasional update too, since the first day, some odder than others.
They start comparing notes, and notice the city has a plan...
129. John and Rodney work HERE (SCP Foundation)
130. How To Tame Your Dragon(ish) AU
John knows that if he could just get onto - and stay on - the back of one of those beasts, he could fly! He has an idea of how to make it happen, but needs help.
Rodney is the crazy/cranky genius blacksmith that all the adults avoid interacting with whenever possible and all the children take their broken toys to.
131. Soulmate Au with an identifier which is up to author - black/white/grey world becomes colour or name somewhere on body or identical tattoos or something completely different...
132. Rodney didn't get to college/university but he gets to Atlantis somehow, once there he keeps trying to get the ATA gene and work with the scientists but because he's not educated they wont let him at first. He and John just miss each other in various areas until there are emergencies then John notices how good he is and they both realise how good they feel in each others company.
