Romancing McShep Fest 2019 prompt time!

Yes, m'dears, it's time to submit those prompts for the 2019 Romancing McShep Fest!

Please comment to this post with your prompt suggestions. Prompts may be anything including, but not limited to, pictures, poetry or song. You may offer as many prompts for the fest as your romantic heart desires. We'll continue with our shameless begging for prompts until midnight Jan 31st.

Feel free to check out the prompts posted in previous years. (If there's an idea you love, feel free to post it again here.)

Post as many prompts as you like, but please number them or leave sufficient space between them so it's easy to tell they're separate prompts.

Right, so here's where I start spouting ideas that I've had but can't write myself for whatever reason:

1. Rodney is Tok'ra. And John really likes Rodney but he's more than a little creeped out by the whole alien snake sharing his head thing. Spoiler: they get past it and fall in love

2. Grant Jansky on Atlantis. The guys a genius computerist (yeah, I don't know computers), he could have caught the SGCs eyes before he ended up trading. In a Rodney-less Atlantis, with Radek refusing to be on John's team even though he's CSO, John flies against expectations and asks Grant to be on his team. Spoiler: they fall in love.

3. Regency AU. I don't even have a plot, I just want a Regency AU. Spoiler: they fall in love

1. Rodney works in a lab doing science at all hours of the night. One night an assistant leaves the radio on to the local station and he hears the late-night call show hosted by John and he finds himself tuning in more and more often. John gets a lot of calls for advice on various topics, including love and sex. In real life he has a hard time connecting to people enough to have relationships of his own. Maybe Rodney arranges a meet-up, or becomes a regular caller, but eventually they meet. Cue heart eyes. ::grins::

2. A canon-compliant SGA take on, or fully AU fusion with, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, where John drags Rodney on one crazy adventure after another all while working up the courage to admit his feelings.

3. Any variation on an amnesia fic where nothing can take away the bone-deep memory of being in love with the other person. Because there can never be enough amnesia fic!

1. Sheppard Air: This used to be on the Apple app store - maybe it still is:

Obviously, John Sheppard's running a small company as a flight instructor and he wants an app to help his students get qualified. So he goes to one R. M. McKay, a software developer, for help designing the interface... romance ensues!

2. Lupercalia coincides with Valentine's day, so how about a fusion with A Companion to Wolves where John and Rodney (and others) are bonded to psychic wolves. Maybe one of them's bonded to a wolfsister, in fact, who goes into heat... The wolves are most likely adapted Marine wolves bred specially for the SGC.

3. A crossover set after the end of the movie "Treed Murray" (surprisingly good!). Murray (David Hewlett) decides that he needs to learn martial arts to defend himself if he ever gets mugged again. He goes to a dojo where Ronon and Teyla are instructors - but it turns out Brendan Dean (Joe Flanigan from "Thoughtcrimes") also goes to that dojo...

1) John is a gardener, and of course Rodney doesn't need one, because he only has a balcony he never uses (too much sun). But with Jeannie pregnant again, suddenly Rodney is responsible for Jeannie's garden: lawn mowing, hand-weeding, and other horrible things. John is the solution to (all) his problems.

2. Historical AU: In ancient Rome John buys a slave (Rodney) for doing the administrative work on his latifundium. Rodney not only revolutionzes the farm work but also changes John's view of the world.

So I was driving home and had a sudden urge for Vulcan!John fic. Maybe with Rodney as human or as a betazoid... Or some other kind of alien...

Just... Vulcan!John- who doesn't like touching others because it means he can *feel* them. Plus, the pointy ears help.

Christmas Family McShep fic

- adding this here because I wanted to write it but that hasn't happened yet and I'm not sure if it will.

Short version: John's dad, instead of dying almost dies. His family decides they must all get together for Christmas in response. Rodney offers to go with John. Everyone thinks they're dating (spoiler: they aren't, but then they are)


Longer version (feel free to ignore if the above is enough to spark your muse... these are just the extra notes I have...)


John gets a family summons... (his dad didn't die, just had a health scare, so now they're doing a big family Christmas reunion ) And it heavily implies that if he hasn't found someone to share his life with by now his father will arrange soemthing..

Rodney walks into John's room without knocking (as he does), and asks whats wrong.

What Rodney hears is that John needs moral support. He says he'll just go with John and help him fend off his family. They can't be as bad as the wraith.

What John hears is that Rodney will pretend to be his bf so his family lays off.

So they go, and John is slightly more touchy feely than usual (only slightly cos he already touches Rodney a lot)

Rodney thinks John is putting the moves on him. John thinks Rodney is pretending.

All John's relatives assume they're pretending before they even get a chance to say anything

When Rodney hears this, he's just like, whatever... And ignores it

John thinks Rodney is a particularly good pretend bf

But see... the thing is... Rodney's never thought of guys like that before- for some reason it never occurred to him that he could... And now that John's touching and kissing him... he realises he can have the whole romantic relationship thing with *John* another guy. Who isn't trying to change him.

Rodney is very enthusiastic in his reponses.

John pines over Rodney the perfect pretend bf.

Until soemthing happens and John gets put out of his misery by finding out Rodney wasn't pretending (maybe when Rodney actually marries him...)

Also for some reason the muse has decided that John needs to have a Great Aunt Edith... Who pinched his cheeks, asks totally inappropriate questions about his relationship with Rodney, and 'subtly' tries to get John and Patrick and Dave to make up .. those stubborn Sheppard men

Rodney, of course, adores her. She's as blunt as he is!

1. John is an unbonded Sentinel who didn't go on the first expedition to Atlantis because unbonded Sentinels are not allowed to go on long term or one way missions. Then SGC makes contact with Atlantis a year later and Rodney (along with command team) comes back to Earth for debriefing and sparks booms between John and Rodney when they meet.

2. Rodney has never been in love and isn't interested in falling in love. He is more interested in making a name and in science. It isn't until he meets John that he begins to reconsider falling in love.

3. John and Rodney are in an established but secret relationship when Rodney is kidnapped. When John does eventually find Rodney, they kiss in public, outing themselves to everyone on Atlantis. I would love to see various reactions from the team, and everyone else. Did they know already, or surprised and is there anyone who's homophobic etc?

SGC AU: John and Rodney hook up over Grindr, and then accidentally run into each other at work the next day. Record Scratch. Embarrassment. Fear. Hope?? Then it's like they can't stop running into each other. Eating lunch at the same table. Working on a project together. Falling in love.

I drove home from work the other day behind a van for 'Sheppard catering' and, well, can't you just see an AU fic with John baking? And Rodney isn't sure if he loves the cupcakes or the baker more.

Trapped off-world, in torrential rains, and there's only one tent and John & Rodney are forced to share body heat to keep warm.

John is sick, delirious and is rambling. Thinks the person who's with him is Rodney and is confessing love death-bed style. Only it's not Rodney who's there.

A Numb3rs fusion AU where John is the mathematician and Rodney the FBI agent (or vice-versa)

Rodney is a bank teller part time while he works out his Theory of Everything to wow the masses. This one regular customer is kind of good-looking but unnecessarily awkward and what is with his ridiculous hair? Then one day the hot customer passes Rodney a note. OH NO IT'S A BANK ROBBERY! Rodney panics and pushes the big red button. The hottie tries to leave, but the security guard is all over him like a cheap suit. The cops are on their way!

Rodney steps back feeling bravely virtuous! Then finally reads the note.

"Hi. I'm John. I know you're working right now, but here's my number if you want to go for coffee."

I'd love to see a McShep or Hewligan version of "Desk Set", the 1957 Spencer Tracy/Katharine Hepburn romcom. The Hill of Tara in Ireland is rumored to be the entrance to the otherworld.

What if that were true? What if John and Rodney (or Hewilgan pairing of choice) stumbled into it?

1. Magic is real. A spellcasting goes awry. Could be an unexpected love spell or could be overcoming the danger the spell puts one of our guys in.

2. Brendan Dean and Emmett have to work together to solve a case. Neither one knew going in that they would have to pretend to be a couple.

3. Sam Synn is stranded on a desert island with David Kellum. Working together is the only way they'll survive.

McShep are flying commercial (for whatever reason) and the pilots suddenly get a call to prepare for an Air Force emergency communication. Next thing you know, McShep get beamed straight out of the aeroplane to save the world and the entire passenger complement sees... declassification required.
